Renewable Energy at Cheyenne Light, Fuel & PowerCheyenne Light, Fuel & Power and its parent company, Black Hills Corporation, believe in the importance of delivering energy from diverse sources to our customers in a cost-conscious manner. As part of these efforts, Cheyenne Light sells the Renewable Energy Credits generated from the nearby wind facilities to reduce customer costs. Happy Jack Wind Farm, owned by Duke Energy, has been in service since September 2008. It is located in Laramie County, near Cheyenne and has fourteen 2.1 megawatt turbines with a generating capacity of 29.4 megawatts. Cheyenne Light purchases 15 megawatts of the facility’s energy output for retail customers under a long-term power purchase agreement. Since 2008, Cheyenne Light also has used the Happy Jack Wind Farm as part of our renewable education program for customers, communities and civic organizations as well as for students in grades K-12. Near Happy Jack is the Silver Sage Wind Farm, also owned by Duke. It has been in service since October 2009. This wind farm has twenty 2.1 megawatt turbines with a generating capacity of 42 megawatts. Cheyenne Light purchases 10 megawatts of the facility’s energy output for retail customers under a long-term power purchase agreement. We at Cheyenne Light pride ourselves on providing tips, tools and services to our customers aimed at reducing energy use and providing cost-saving opportunities. This is accomplished through energy-efficiency education on our website, in customer communications and through community events.
