Understanding Your Electric and Gas Bill (pdf)
Your
Electric and Natural Gas Bill –
Understanding your electric and gas bill can provide answers to
many questions about your service. Each month you will receive a
bill for the service used during the past billing period. Billing
periods are as close to 30 days as possible. Bills are based upon
meter readings or estimated energy usage. Bills are calculated according
to rates approved by state regulatory authorities.
How does Cheyenne Light measure your usage?
Measuring your electricity usage is done by kilowatt-hours (kWh).
A kWh is the basic unit of electric energy equal to one kilowatt
for one hour. A kilowatt-hour is 1,000 watts used for one hour.
For example, if you have ten 100-Watt light bulbs on at one time,
the demand is 1,000 Watts or 1 kilowatt (kW). If they remain on
for one hour, the energy used is one kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Measuring
your gas usage is done by cubic foot (cf). One cubic foot is equal
to the amount of gas required to fill one cubic foot under standard
temperature and pressure (60 degrees Fahrenheit and 14.7 pounds
per square inch pressure). A CHEYENNE LIGHT meter reader visits
each customer’s meter monthly and records the reading in thousand
cubic feet (mcf). Since the energy content of a Mcf of natural gas
varies throughout our service area, we convert the volume of gas
you use to energy units called "decatherms" (a decatherm,
or dth, equals one million British thermal units of energy). By
doing this, we ensure you are billed for the amount of energy you
used based on the energy content of natural gas for your locality.
You pay neither more nor less than your fair share.
Your Cheyenne Light representative can provide additional information.
The location and telephone number are shown on your bill and in
the phone book. Good service is important, and we encourage you
to contact us whenever you need information about your bill or services.
Your Rate Code is listed on the front of the bill. If you should
have any questions about the rate you are being billed under, please
contact your Cheyenne Light customer service office.
We're pleased to do our part in helping the environment, and we
appreciate your help. To use the two-way envelope, simply pull out
the inside flap as shown on the back of the envelope. Doing that
saves 27 tons of paper a year compared to sending separate envelopes
to our customers for returning their payments.
