Let Your Voice Be Heard on the CO2 Tax Proposal
Your voice counts.
When you write or call your representatives in Washington, they listen. We are thankful that our Wyoming U.S. Senators John Barrasso and Mike Enzi have resisted passing legislation that would implement a cap-and-trade program with no cost protection for customers. You can make a difference in whether Washington passes a new tax that would unfairly increase electricity bills.
Please contact your U.S. Senators and let them know how an unfair CO2 tax would impact your family, your business, or even your children's school.
Below are sample letters and information you can use in your communication. These facts and information are useful. However, telling your own story, in your own words is the most effective way to demonstrate how higher electricity bills caused by a CO2 tax on electricity would impact you.
How to Write or Call Your Senators and Members of Congress
Letters through the U.S. mail, messages by email and phone calls all reach your Senators and Members of Congress. Use whichever approach you prefer.

I am concerned about the impacts of the proposed CO2 tax as a part of greenhouse gas legislation. This new tax would increase the cost of energy for me as well as other families, businesses and communities.
My utility has done a good job of keeping my electric bill affordable. Cheyenne Light Fuel & Power and other utilities in our part of the country are investing in reliable, affordable energy sources to serve our electricity needs. Through energy efficiency programs, I have access to information and practical tools that help me keep my utility bill low.
I realize that balancing energy with environmental concerns is challenging. However, some in Washington are proposing legislation that could increase the cost of our electricity by 34 percent to 85 percent or more.
If cap-and-trade legislation were passed today, it would cause economic hardship for many Midwestern electricity customers who would be hit harder than other regions by the tax.
I am thankful for those in Washington who are fighting for protection for electricity customers like me. As you consider cap-and-trade legislation, I urge you to resist versions that would impose a new tax on emissions with no safeguards for customers. There are alternatives to cap-and-trade legislation that would protect customers and still help reduce emissions.
Thank you for considering my concerns and for working to keep energy affordable.
