Electric Bills Will Increase if Congress Passes CO2 TaxCheyenne Light Fuel & Power is concerned about efforts by the Administration and many in Congress As a valued customer, you should have received a letter with your May bill explaining how this proposal would impact you, what Cheyenne Light Fuel & Power is doing to protect customers from an unfair tax, and how you as a customer, can take action. Letter to Cheyenne Light Fuel & Power Customers Learn MoreMost of the power that serves you and customers across this region is generated with coal as a fuel. Cheyenne Light Fuel & Power has invested in this abundant, reliable domestic energy source to serve our customers. However, some believe Washington should impose additional costs, essentially a tax, on the use of coal for electricity. Since customers in this area and the rest of the Midwest rely heavily on coal for electricity, we will pay a large share of this new tax. Cheyenne Light Fuel & Power and others are working for cost protection for our customers. Learn more about these proposals and how they would impact you. Take ActionLeaders in Washington, DC are considering proposals -- referred to as "Cap-and-Trade" -- that would impose additional costs on the use of coal for electricity. This new tax could increase the cost of electricity to our South Dakota and Wyoming customers an average of 34 percent to 85 percent or more. Please make sure our leaders in Washington know how this would impact you and ask them to resist legislation that would implement a cap-and-trade program with no cost protection for customers.
